Tooth Preparation
After administering anesthetic, your doctor removes any decayed or weakened tooth tissue, preparing the tooth for its new restoration, much like preparation for other restorative techniques.

Optical Impression
Rather than filling a tray with impression material to bite into, your doctor coats the tooth with a non-toxic, tasteless powder and uses a digital camera to capture a picture of the tooth. This process takes only a minute or two.

Digital Design
The CEREC 3D software converts the digital image into a three-dimensional virtual model on screen. Your doctor uses this model, along with clinical expertise, to design your custom restoration directly on the computer.

Milling the Restoration
Once the design is complete, the data is sent to a separate milling machine in the office. A ceramic block matching your natural tooth shade is placed in the machine, where two diamond-coated burs carve it into the exact shape of your restoration. This step typically takes 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the size and type of restoration.

Fitting and Bonding
Your doctor tries the finished restoration in your mouth to confirm proper fit and bite. Once confirmed, the restoration is polished and bonded securely to the prepared tooth.
